For a long while now I've been aware that one of the biggest weaknesses of this website is its lack of analytical content. Part of the reason for this is that I felt was it important to build a valuable reference base in terms of the works themselves and the basic information about them (name, origin, current location, etc.). I'm pleased to say that I now display 100% of Van Gogh's works within the Gallery--a complete, online catalogue raisonné. Given that I've finally achieved this milestone, it's now time to begin adding more substantial and valuable information.
I'm thinking of these as "InSites" and my goal is to begin creating these pages for the most important of Van Gogh's works (including the drawings, of course). These pages include:
As anyone can tell you, writing can be a painful process--to say nothing of the extensive research required for each of these works. Sometimes the material for just one of these pages will involve input from several books and articles. It's a slow and somewhat arduous process putting these pages together, but in the end I feel that it adds a new and valuable dimension to this Gallery.
Please be aware that this list below is pitifully small at this point and will probably grow more slowly than any other section on this website (because of the time and effort involved in the creation of each page). Still, bear with me--I'll make it a priority to add more and more of these pages in the weeks and months to come.
