PHILADELPHIA – America’s Colonial Gem
Welcomes
Vincent van Gogh – Up Close
February 1 - May 6, 2012
Philadelphia Museum of Art

The renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art describes this major event: "Through some 40 masterpieces borrowed from collections around the world, Van Gogh - Up Close is the first exhibition to explore the reasons and means by which this impassioned artist made such unusual changes to his painting style in the final years of his life." Highlights of the Vincent van Gogh – Up Close special collection include Iris, Undergrowth with Two Figures, and Blossoming Almond Tree. Roberta Smith of the New York Times calls this exhibition "revelatory" and goes on to write "These paintings convey another aspect of the restless intelligence, always looking, always striving, that permeates and is also given a new sense of order and forthrightness by this marvelous show."
