Starry Night

by pepe nero

what magic
what poetry
what life
this great work
sings

black cypress flame
licks the sky

distance hills heave up
swell
mighty blue ocean waves
about to inundate
the sleeping village
and it’s dead church

then:
that sky

what a wondrous thing

how could he
have known so much,
seen so much?
it was given no one then
to know of galaxies and such

the sky
shall also be
my cathedral’s dome
